Electrical Maintenance Engineer

About the role

Wärtsilä is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to supervise and coordinate daily electrical maintenance activities at its Lihir site in Papua New Guinea. The role ensures plant performance targets are met while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily electrical maintenance tasks for the plant and assigned team.
• Ensure compliance with contractual performance targets, QHSE standards, and site procedures.
• Develop, implement, and deliver training on maintenance procedures for new employees.
• Monitor and manage maintenance equipment, spare parts, and tools, taking corrective action when needed.
• Review completed work to verify repairs meet technical specifications and safety standards.
• Coach and mentor technicians, supporting complex troubleshooting of electrical, machinery, and equipment issues.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of electrical maintenance experience in a large diesel‑engine power plant or similar industrial environment.
• Valid Electrical Licence or equivalent recognised certification.
• Proven ability to lead a team of electrical technicians and provide technical guidance.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, health, and environmental standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PLC and SCADA systems, including programming, modification, troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Technical knowledge of protection relays, low‑voltage (LV) and high‑voltage (HV) systems, alternators and engine auxiliary systems.
• Hands‑on experience with Wärtsilä UNIC C1 and C2 control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
• Experience with engine and auxiliary system overhauls and willingness to perform hands‑on maintenance.
