Electrical Maintenance Technician

About the role

Wärtsilä is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician to join the Lihir power plant site in Papua New Guinea. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing electrical equipment to ensure reliable plant operation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the plant during assigned shifts according to company policies and the maintenance plan.
• Identify, test, and replace sensors and transmitters on engines and auxiliary equipment.
• Perform inspections, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, circuit breakers, and control panels.
• Diagnose electrical faults, carry out repairs, and calibrate instruments to minimise downtime.
• Use testing equipment such as multimeters, insulation testers, and power quality analyzers.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Follow Wärtsilä QHSE guidelines, isolation and LOTO procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Support the Maintenance Supervisor and mentor junior technicians.

Required profile

• Papua New Guinean national with a valid PNG electrical licence.
• Trade Certificate or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering/Technology.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in power plant electrical maintenance.
• Strong fault‑finding, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and adapt to additional hours as needed.

Required skills

• Generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, circuit breakers, control panels.
• Electrical testing equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, power quality analyzers).
• Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals.
• Isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
