Non-Key Expert – Forestry, Climate Change & Biodiversity

About the role

NTU International is seeking a qualified Non-Key Expert to provide technical assistance for EU‑funded programmes in Papua New Guinea and the wider Pacific region. The expert will support sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical assistance and support to the EU Delegation for programming, implementation, monitoring, review and evaluation of EU development cooperation operations.
• Facilitate coordination and dialogue with partner‑country institutions, stakeholders and other project partners.
• Provide expertise on sustainable forest and natural resources management, forest conservation/restoration, and ecosystem‑based approaches.
• Contribute to climate change adaptation, mitigation, and nature‑based solutions within the project context.
• Prepare high‑quality reports, policy briefs and other documentation for EU‑funded initiatives.

Required profile

• University degree (preferably postgraduate) in forestry, environmental sciences, natural resources management, biodiversity conservation, ecology, climate change, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience in developing countries, especially in forestry, climate change, biodiversity or environmental management.
• Demonstrated experience in sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation/mitigation, and environmental policy programming.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to draft high‑quality documents in a culturally sensitive context.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
• Willingness to travel internationally and to remote areas as required.
