Operational Risk Officer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Operational Risk Officer to join our Governance, Risk & Compliance team. Reporting to the Operational Risk Manager, you will help maintain and strengthen the Group’s Operational Risk Management Framework and promote a risk‑aware culture across one of Papua New Guinea’s leading financial services organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and report day‑to‑day operational risk exposures across the Group.
• Administer the Operational Risk Management Framework, including maintaining risk registers and related tools.
• Apply risk assessment criteria and conduct key control testing to evaluate control effectiveness.
• Record, monitor and analyse operational incidents and customer complaints to identify trends and control gaps.
• Support risk assessment activities to ensure operational risks are identified, assessed and managed appropriately.
• Prepare regular and ad‑hoc risk reports for Executive Committee, Operational Risk Committee and Board Audit & Risk Committee.
• Assist in developing and implementing operational risk policies, procedures and standards.
• Provide advice and challenge business processes to strengthen the Group’s control environment.
• Support employee awareness and training initiatives on operational risk.
• Maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to support robust governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Business, Finance, Risk Management or a related discipline.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in risk management, compliance, audit or governance.
• Knowledge of risk management and governance frameworks, methodologies and assessment processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports and engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Critical thinking, analytical and problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
