Renewable Energy Expert – Non-Key Consultant

About the role

NTU International is looking for a Non-Key Expert in Renewable Energy to support EU‑funded technical assistance programmes in Papua New Guinea and the wider Pacific region. The consultant will contribute to the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of renewable‑energy projects that advance sustainable energy access, energy transition and climate‑resilient energy systems.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance for renewable‑energy development, including project feasibility, investment planning and implementation support.
• Conduct analyses of solar, wind, hydropower, biomass and other renewable technologies for off‑grid, mini‑grid and decentralised energy systems.
• Support rural electrification initiatives and integration of renewable sources into existing electricity networks.
• Assist in the development of energy policies, regulatory frameworks and institutional strengthening activities.
• Monitor and evaluate energy‑sector programmes, ensuring alignment with climate‑change mitigation and resilience objectives.
• Facilitate coordination and dialogue with government agencies, utilities, private sector partners and other stakeholders across the Pacific.

Required profile

• University degree (preferably postgraduate) in renewable energy, electrical engineering, energy engineering, power systems, environmental engineering, energy economics or a related field.
• Minimum six years of professional experience in renewable‑energy projects in developing‑country contexts.
• Demonstrated experience working in Papua New Guinea, the Pacific region or similar environments.
• Proven ability to produce high‑quality written reports and communicate effectively in culturally diverse settings.
• Willingness to travel internationally and to remote locations as required.
