Bridge/Structural Engineer

About the role

SMEC, part of the SJ Group, is seeking a Bridge/Structural Engineer to join its team in Port Moresby. The role involves planning, analysing, designing and delivering bridge and related civil infrastructure while meeting engineering standards and client expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse bridge structures, foundations, retaining walls and associated civil works.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and project management specialists.
• Conduct structural assessments, design reviews and provide value‑engineering recommendations.
• Engage with project stakeholders and support construction teams by responding to site queries.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing bridges/structures for highway projects, preferably funded by multilateral development banks.
• Strong communication skills in English.
