Senior Safeguards Coordinator – Infrastructure

About the role

The Senior Safeguards Coordinator, Infrastructure will support the implementation of the Australia‑Papua New Guinea Law and Justice Partnership Infrastructure and Equipment Fund (IEF) safeguards framework. The role ensures contractors and partner agencies meet environmental, safety and social safeguards requirements while integrating gender, disability and inclusion (GEDSI) considerations into construction processes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑ground leadership, mentoring and monitoring across the IEF infrastructure portfolio.
• Ensure consistent safeguards compliance, quality assurance and reporting for all infrastructure works.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor GEDSI compliance throughout project lifecycles.
• Coordinate with government partners, contractors and field staff to improve safeguards outcomes.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in environmental management, occupational health and safety, engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in environment and social safeguards management, preferably in PNG or the Pacific.
• Demonstrated experience with DFAT, GoPNG and IFC Performance Standards.
• Strong understanding of social safeguards, SEAH and child protection risk identification.
