Community Affairs Manager – Mining & Natural Resources

About the role

The Community Affairs Manager will lead all community engagement, stakeholder relations and social performance activities for a growing mining and natural resources company operating in Mave, Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures the company maintains its social licence to operate while supporting safe, uninterrupted mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Build and sustain trusted relationships with landowners, clan leaders, local communities, government agencies and other key stakeholders.
• Design and deliver community consultation programmes, stakeholder engagement activities and awareness campaigns.
• Negotiate land access, manage community agreements and resolve disputes in a culturally appropriate manner.
• Oversee the community grievance management system, ensuring timely recording, investigation and resolution of complaints.
• Monitor community sentiment, identify emerging social risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate community development initiatives, local economic participation programmes and social investment projects.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in community affairs, stakeholder engagement or social performance within mining or natural resources projects.
• Proven ability to work in remote, culturally diverse environments and engage customary landowners.
• Strong understanding of regulatory obligations, community commitments and grievance handling processes.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship‑building skills.
