General Manager – Ship Management (Marine Operations)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced maritime leader to take full responsibility for the safe, reliable and commercially effective management of a diverse shipping operation. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership across fleet operations, technical management, marine safety, compliance, crewing, procurement and asset performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead safe, efficient and cost‑effective fleet operations.
• Drive vessel availability, reliability and optimal fleet utilisation.
• Build a strong safety culture and reduce incidents, off‑hire and operational inefficiencies.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, DOC, Class and other marine regulatory requirements.
• Oversee vessel maintenance, repairs, modifications and docking programmes.
• Provide leadership across marine operations, HSSE, technical, compliance, crewing, procurement and inventory.
• Manage maintenance, repair and docking expenditure while improving cost performance.
• Support fleet commercialisation, customer service and business development.
• Negotiate and oversee charter‑party arrangements.
• Oversee marine insurance, casualty and claims matters.
• Contribute to fleet strategy, asset utilisation, vessel upgrades and capital investment decisions.
• Lead or support new‑build and major vessel projects.

Required profile

• 10‑15+ years of progressive maritime experience with senior leadership responsibility.
• Proven track record managing vessel operations, maintenance, docking and off‑hire performance.
• Strong operational and technical credibility combined with commercial judgement.
• Experience in chartering, fleet utilisation and commercial shipping operations.
• Experience with new‑builds, vessel upgrades or major maintenance programmes is highly regarded.
