Hydrological Engineer

About the role

SMEC, a leading engineering consultancy, is looking for a motivated Hydrological Engineer to join its team in Papua New Guinea. You will support the planning, design and implementation of major road and highway projects, ensuring that water‑related risks are properly managed.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hydrological and hydraulic studies for roads, bridges, highways and drainage works.
• Develop models to estimate runoff, peak flows and design flood levels.
• Design road drainage systems, cross‑drainage structures, storm‑water facilities and erosion control measures.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications.
• Support environmental impact assessments related to water resources.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in hydrological analysis, flood risk analysis and hydraulic design for infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication skills in English.
