Financial Controller – Business Unit Reporting (Insurance)

About the role

This senior Financial Controller position is based in Port Moresby and supports a key business unit within the insurance sector. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the role blends hands‑on financial control with strategic business partnering to influence executive decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Maintain General Ledger integrity and perform balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in line with IFRS and local statutory requirements.
• Produce Board reports, financial commentary and management reporting.
• Manage external audits and coordinate statutory reporting obligations.
• Oversee all taxation matters, including compliance and liaison with tax authorities.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and performance analysis.
• Provide commercial insights to business leaders and identify process improvement opportunities.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability.

Required profile

• CPA or CA qualification.
• Extensive experience in financial control, statutory reporting and financial management.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and corporate taxation.
• Proven track record managing audits and regulatory compliance.
• Advanced financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting capabilities.
• Experience preparing Board and Executive reports.
• Demonstrated leadership and team‑development skills.
