Education Officer (3 positions) – Smarter Safer Schools

About the role

The Education Officer will oversee grant implementation and operational activities for the UNICEF Smarter and Safer Schools (3S) project across Morobe, Western Highlands and Central provinces in Papua New Guinea. The role supports the design, delivery and monitoring of life‑skills education, child protection and school safety initiatives to create inclusive, resilient learning environments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and scale the Smarter, Safer Schools framework in line with UNICEF education and child‑protection strategies.
• Coordinate life‑skills education interventions that promote safety, wellbeing, citizenship and positive behaviour.
• Support schools to integrate disaster risk reduction, climate resilience and safeguarding into their plans.
• Provide technical support and training to teachers, school leaders and partners on standards, methodologies and child‑protection practices.
• Develop and adapt training materials, guidelines and tools consistent with UNICEF frameworks.
• Facilitate coordination among government, NGOs, communities and development partners.
• Monitor project activities, collect data, analyse outcomes and contribute to donor reporting.

Required profile

• Experience in education project management, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of child protection, school safety and life‑skills education.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders including government, NGOs and community groups.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and reporting skills.
