Travel Manager – PNG Shared Services Platform

About the role

The Travel Manager will lead the delivery of travel services across the Abt PNG Shared Services Platform, ensuring safe, timely, and cost‑effective travel for multiple DFAT‑funded programs in Papua New Guinea.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve travel policies and procedures.
• Manage competing travel priorities across seven programmes, applying service standards and risk‑based prioritisation.
• Oversee all travel bookings – flights, accommodation, ground transport – and handle complex or urgent itineraries.
• Ensure compliance with travel policies, expense guidelines and DFAT contractual requirements.
• Design and maintain a reporting framework to track travel‑related KPIs.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate travel officers, providing training and performance feedback.
• Maintain accurate travel records, update the travel tracker and verify invoices with finance teams.
• Select and manage relationships with travel vendors, negotiate rates and achieve value‑for‑money savings.
• Collaborate with the Brisbane Travel Team for international travel requests.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing travel operations and supervising travel staff.
• Strong knowledge of travel policies, DFAT contractual requirements and audit‑readiness standards.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple programme teams and finance departments.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
