Welder for Heavy‑Duty Foundation Engineering Projects

About the role

Trevi Group is looking for an experienced welder to support major geotechnical and construction works on the Lihir Project in Papua New Guinea. The role involves fabricating, modifying, repairing and maintaining heavy‑duty foundation equipment and tooling, with an initial period in the Philippines before mobilising to Lihir Island.

Key responsibilities

• Perform high‑quality structural welding using SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG) and FCAW techniques on heavy‑gauge carbon steel and alloy components.
• Fabricate and assemble custom geotechnical drilling tools, bucket teeth, auger flights, casing joints and specialty foundation components from technical drawings.
• Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings and welding symbols to plan layout and execution sequences.
• Conduct structural repairs, hard‑facing and wear‑protection overlays on equipment exposed to abrasive ground conditions.
• Carry out self‑inspections of weld profiles, prepare for basic NDT, and cooperate with third‑party inspectors for certification.

Required profile

• Valid multi‑position heavy‑gauge welding certifications.
• 3‑5 years proven experience as a welder/fabricator in heavy industry, preferably mining, marine construction or foundation engineering.
• Willingness to work in a high‑activity workshop with heat, noise and fumes, and to travel for rotational or long‑term field assignments.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lb.

Required skills

• SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding processes.
• Blueprint and welding symbol interpretation.
• Heavy‑duty cutting torches, plasma cutters, arc‑gauging units, large angle grinders and magnetic drills.
• Basic Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) preparation.
• Understanding of pre‑heating and post‑heating requirements for high‑wear alloys.
