Business Development Director

About the role

CARE International in Papua New Guinea is looking for a Business Development Director to lead and strengthen its business development and resource mobilisation function. The role provides strategic and operational leadership to grow CARE PNG's funding portfolio, strengthen donor and partner engagement and improve systems for securing high-quality funding, while supporting the transfer of business development skills to national staff. It is a locally recruited position based in Port Moresby; the package does not include housing or additional expatriate benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Lead CARE PNG's business development and resource mobilisation strategy.
• Manage a live funding pipeline and advise senior management strategically.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners and key stakeholders.
• Lead proposal development, including concept notes, technical proposals, budgets and compliance reviews.
• Strengthen business development systems, tools, workflows and knowledge management.
• Coach and mentor staff to build long-term business development capability.
• Promote CARE's values, safeguarding commitments and ethical partnership principles.

Required profile

• Senior-level experience in business development, resource mobilisation and institutional fundraising, with a strong record of leading successful donor proposals.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in international development and/or humanitarian programs.
• Significant experience in business development, donor engagement, proposal writing and compliance.
• Experience working with institutional donors such as DFAT, EU, UN agencies, ADB, World Bank, USAID or similar.
• Excellent written and verbal English.
• Experience in mentoring and coaching.
