Women Economic Empowerment & Gender Equality Consultant (Port Moresby)

About the role

UN Women is seeking an International Consultant to lead initiatives that strengthen women’s economic empowerment, engage the private sector, and improve financing mechanisms for gender equality in Papua New Guinea.

Key responsibilities

• Support the PNG Country Office in designing and implementing programmes that enhance informal market management and women’s income recovery.
• Provide capacity‑building for market managers, promote women’s inclusion in governance, and raise public awareness on hygiene and women’s rights.
• Develop and deliver financial literacy, business skills, and access‑to‑finance training for women entrepreneurs.
• Facilitate private‑sector partnerships to expand formal employment opportunities and improve workplace safety for women.
• Analyze gender‑focused economic data to inform policy recommendations and monitor impact.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in gender studies, economics, development studies or related field.
• Proven experience in gender‑responsive economic empowerment projects, preferably in PNG or similar contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government, NGOs, and private‑sector stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
