Senior Environment Specialist

About the role

The Senior Environment Specialist will join Surbana Jurong’s Environment & Social unit to support a large‑scale infrastructure project in the water resources sector. Working closely with the Papua New Guinea government and the contractor, the role focuses on preparing, reviewing and monitoring environmental and social safeguards, especially those aligned with World Bank requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) and Contractor ESMPs.
• Review bidding documents for ESHS compliance and provide guidance on safeguards.
• Monitor, supervise and report on the implementation of ESHS measures on‑site.
• Coordinate with statutory agencies, World Bank representatives and government departments to secure regulatory clearances.
• Maintain a database of ESHS incidents, prepare monthly/quarterly reports and advise on corrective actions.

Required profile

• Graduation in Civil Engineering or equivalent and a postgraduate degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Management.
• Minimum 10 years overall experience, including at least 5 years in Environment & Social Impact Assessment for large infrastructure projects.
• At least one World Bank‑funded project in the last five years.
• Minimum 5 years experience in ESHS implementation and monitoring for large linear projects.
